Belgium (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Internal discussions on nitrogen issues in agriculture are set for Thursday, with CD&V advocating farmland investment for food security and climate resilience, aiming for a decision by nightfall.

The Flemish political parties will discuss internal matters on Thursday, and they will likely make a final decision by Thursday night. The environmental part is tricky because it covers the nitrogen problem in agriculture that caused issues for the Jambon government in the last term. Bart Dochy from CD&V, who knows much about farming, said, “If we don’t fix this issue, there won’t be a Flemish government with us.”

How Can CD&V Enhance Farming and Food Security?

CD&V wants to buy farmland to help farming and food security, even though the current rules are in place until 2030. They believe it’s significant to protect farmland for the future, support local food production, and stop the land from being used for other purposes.CD&V also thinks it’s considerable to back up farming against climate change and economic problems. They believe farmland can help make local food systems stronger and encourage sustainable agriculture. If they agree by Thursday night, the three parties will have meetings over the weekend.
