Ghent (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): The Ghent Film Festival showcases 95 long and 29 short films, featuring renowned directors and local talents, including Oscar contender Van Dijl.
The festival’s boss, Wim De Witte, says there will be lots to find out and more new voices than before. The big festival will start with ‘Small Things Like These’ by Tim Mielants. They picked 95 long films and 29 short films from over 1,500 entries, including ones from Berlin, Cannes, Locarno, Telluride, and Toronto. De Witte says we always have a mix of big and small projects. This time, we’ve got famous films like ‘Anora’ by Sean Baker, ‘The Room Next Door’ by Pedro Almodóvar, and ‘Vermiglio’ by Maura Delpero from top festivals like Berlinale, Cannes, and Venice.
Will New Filmmakers Impress at Ghent Festival?
De Witte said they’ll show new filmmakers, knowing it’s risky as the audience isn’t familiar with them. Still, he believes most films will impress the viewers. Ghent locals like Dimitri Verhulst, Christina Vandekerckhove, Ish Ait Hamou, Monir Ait Hamou, and Leonardo Van Dijl will show their new works at the festival. Leonardo Van Dijl’s ‘Julie Keeps Quiet’ will be Belgium’s entry for the Best International Feature Film at the Oscars.
