Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The ex-European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi will report on political groups of the European Parliament before the official launch in the coming weeks.
Former European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi is to show his landmark report on European Union competitiveness in private to European Parliament political parties, several officials revealed. Mario Draghi was requested last year by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to organise a broad study on how European industry can regain benefits on the global stage in a favourably complicated geopolitical landscape.
How Will Draghi’s Report Address Europe’s Competitiveness Challenges?
EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola invited Draghi to deliver the presentation, Metsola’s spokesperson verified. The conference will be a “technical” briefing ahead of the official presentation of the report, anticipated later in September, an aide to Draghi expressed. It is the only point on the agenda of the meeting.
“Draghi will line up his report, and all the group leaders will be able to ask follow-up questions,” Metsola’s spokesperson stated.
How Will Draghi’s Recommendations Impact the EU’s Global Standing?
As Draghi, also an ex-Italian prime minister, has offered in several speeches, the work will be centred on how to serve the productivity gap recorded in the last 30 years comparable to the United States, which has been mostly pushed by a lack of investment in innovation. It will propose “a radical change” for the bloc’s economy, Draghi stated in April. The report, anticipated to come in at about 400 pages, is the outcome of Draghi and a group of seven Commission officials.
The report contains around 300 pages of analysis, touches on critical sectors such as energy, defence, and trade, and pitches suggestions on how to strengthen European infrastructure, industry, and management of EU countries’ economic and fiscal policies.
