Fatal crane accident at Brussels port under investigation

Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): A sixty-year-old man died after being struck by a crane while securing a boat at Monnoyerkaai, Brussels. He fell into the canal despite emergency services’ efforts. An investigation is underway to determine safety compliance and the accident’s cause.

The incident happened on 30th August around 6:30pm  at Monnoyerkaai, right in front of the port of Brussels. A crew member of a boat was trying to tie it more securely to the dock when the accident occurred.

What led to the fatal crane accident at Brussels port?

The incident involved a sixty-year-old man who was hit by a crane used for loading and unloading. Early reports say that the crane struck him, making him lose consciousness and fall into the canal. Even though emergency services were called right away. All rescue efforts failed, and the man did not survive. After the tragic event, the investigation was quickly handed over to the Brussels Labour Auditor’s Office. This office looks into work accidents and makes sure safety rules are being followed. It has been said that they will likely focus on finding out exactly what happened, checking if safety protocols were followed, and looking for any mistakes or safety issues that might have led to the man’s death.
