Los Angeles, 27 August (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – British actor Tim Curry has died aged 80 at his home in Los Angeles, ending a career that stretched across theatre, cinema, television, music and animation. Final years followed a life-changchaning stroke

Curry’s career became inseparable from Dr Frank-N-Furter, the flamboyant scientist he first played in Richard O’Brien’s stage musical The Rocky Horror Show in London in 1973.
He reprised the character for the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Although the film was not initially a conventional box-office success, its midnight screenings developed into a long-running audience phenomenon and transformed Curry into a cult star.
The role could easily have restricted his career, but Curry subsequently built a broad body of work that demonstrated his ability to move between comedy, horror, drama and musical theatre.
Villains and comedy kept Curry beyond one character
Curry became particularly effective at playing extravagant or sinister characters. He portrayed Pennywise the clown in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s It and appeared in films including Clue, Annie, The Hunt for Red October, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and The Three Musketeers.
His career extended well beyond cinema. Curry received three Tony Award nominations for his Broadway performances in Amadeus, My Favorite Year and Monty Python’s Spamalot. His distinctive baritone also supported an extensive career as a voice actor.
He won a Daytime Emmy for his voice performance as Captain Hook in Peter Pan and the Pirates.
