Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The authorities made three arrests in Weidestraat Sint-Joost-ten-Node on Monday during their investigation into an apartment stabbing. Someone suffered an injury at the scene, where emergency responders discovered him bleeding on the street.

Three individuals faced arrest during the afternoon of Monday at Sint-Joost-ten-Node after a stabbing incident took place within a Weidestraat apartment. Medical professionals discovered the victim on the street with bleeding injuries which affected both his arm and hand, but his condition remains stable. The area received police closure, and officers found blood marks in both the building’s entryway and next to the sidewalk.

“Around 13:00, a police patrol found a bleeding man in the Weidestraat,”

says Philippe Fabri of the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.

“The victim was injured in the arm and hand and was taken to the hospital. His life is not in danger.”

The first elements of the investigation indicate that a fight took place in the apartment where the man was found.

“A knife was allegedly pulled out,”

Fabri said.

“3 people were arrested by the police. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the facts and to determine the involvement of all suspects. In the interest of the investigation, no further comment will be made.”

What recent events highlight ongoing safety concerns?

The Weidestraat stabbing incident threatens to escalate the violent situation, which has already been worsened by recent crimes. Allardstraat residents experienced a recent shooting, which was only days before the Weidestraat stabbing incident, adding to rising feelings of apprehension about the ongoing violence in the area.

The local government intensified patrols in the North Station district after the incident took place, but the ongoing disturbances indicate that more than surface-level issues exist. Multiple illegal arrests have been recorded by police in the previous weeks because of wild street brawls that involved weapon possessions. Police have confirmed that the injured victim will recover from their injuries while withholding his personal details.

The evidence review by investigators includes examining both surveillance images and witness testimonies to understand whether the fight had an organised purpose or took place impulsively. The local leadership group has pushed for immediate protective measures because public disturbances are increasing in this area.
