Ypres (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The new swimming pool in Ypres will cost €16 million, will start construction in May 2025, and will take 2 years to complete. It will host the Belgian Swimming Championships, seat 150 spectators, and feature a cafeteria.

The construction of a new swimming pool at the sports site in Ypres is set to begin in early May 2025. After years of discussions and setbacks, the dossier entered its execution phase. The new swimming pool is being designed as a modern and inclusive facility that caters to all residents of Ypres.

Officials mentioned that it will be used for young children learning to swim, individuals seeking a relaxing wellness experience, or dedicated athletes training at a high level. The pool aims to be a welcoming and functional space for everyone. The facility will be equipped with the latest technology.

How will Ypres’s new €16M swimming pool transform sports?

According to the officials, the new swimming pool in Ypres can even host the Belgian Swimming Championships. There will be seats for 150 people to watch the events. This new pool is one part of a larger plan in Flanders to improve sports facilities and make them more modern, particularly swimming pools. They want individuals to be healthier and more active, and they want to construct environmentally friendly buildings.

The new Ypres sports complex is going to feature a cafeteria. The city has not yet found a person to manage the cafeteria, but they want it to be where all the students can gather and have a good time. They said the new swimming pool isn’t so much about the sports aspect, but more about creating the whole experience social and fun.

The new swimming pool in Ypres is going to cost about 16 million euros. It will take 2 years to build, and the old pool will stay open during that time.  After the new pool is finished, the city will decide what to do with the old one. They might use it for something else, fix it up, or tear it down.
