Leuven (Brussels Morning Newspaper): On December 11, 2020, a youth worker from Den Tube in Leuven was attacked by nine masked men in a parking lot, suffering serious injuries. Police arrested three members of the gang 3DO, who received prison sentences of 40 months to 4 years.

A youth worker from the Den Tube youth center was brutally attacked in the Vaartkom parking lot in Leuven on December 11, 2020. He suffered serious injuries, including broken bones in his face and heavy bleeding from his head. When police arrived, they followed a trail of blood that led them to the location of the incident on level -2 of the parking lot. The young man was in critical condition and unable to recall the incident of the attack.

What details were revealed in security footage of the Leuven youth worker attack?

Investigators reviewed security footage from the parking lot and found details about the attack. The video showed the victim arriving around 7:15 PM, followed by a group of nine masked men who appeared to be waiting for him, indicating that the attack was planned. Although the exact incident inside the parking lot was unclear, it was clear that the attack was violent and organized. The masks made it difficult for police to identify the attackers, but they were determined to find out what happened.

The first gang member, aged 24, was caught a day after the attack for a drug case. Police recognized him from the security footage and found blood from the victim on his shoes. He quickly gave the names of two other gang members, both adults at the time. All three were part of the gang 3DO, known for violence at the train station and Den Bruul Park. One got a 3-year prison sentence, while the others received 40 months and 4 years. The judge decided to arrest them right away because there were worries they might commit more crimes.
