Temse (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The municipality of Temse will strengthen enforcement measures at Waesmeer recreational grounds after many residents filed complaints about disturbances from the party hall and restaurant. Residents, together with visitors, have raised their concerns about noise pollution and other nuisances that disturb their comfort.

The Temse municipality plans to enhance their surveillance of the Waesmeer recreation area’s party hall and restaurant after residents submitted many complaints about noisy activities and transportation difficulties. The intensified oversight strategy will handle disturbances caused by these two facilities according to complaints from residents about their declining quality of life.

“Visitors park here randomly on the estate and race through the streets with their expensive, much too loud cars,”

Says one of the residents of the Waesmeer estate.

“Last year, they got into a massive brawl here at a wedding party. They even threw stones at my roller shutters. I was able to pay for the expensive repairs myself.”

“They play loud music on the terrace almost every day. And sometimes until 2 a.m.,”

Says someone else.

“The barbecues outside cause a stench and a lot of soot. The laundry that is hung outside to dry always looks black, and the stench of the waste is unbearable.”

Mayor Hugo Maes (CD&V-Open Vld) confirms that there are often complaints about nuisance.

“Both operations are placed under increased supervision by the police. Given the persistent nuisance, we have decided to set up a project group that will focus on nuisance problems in the Waesmeer.”

The responsible alderman, Bert Bauwelinck (Tesamen), also understands the frustration of the residents. He promises, among other things, the arrival of noise meters, but also that stewards who must guide people to the parking spaces will come. ‘

“And if that is necessary, we can also review the permits because there is a problem if it turns out that there are too many cars for the number of guests they can receive.”

The owner’s son is not happy about the allegations.

“We have already consulted with the mayor a lot in the past. We will do this again and also sit down with the person responsible for the recreational area.”

What Is the background of Waesmeer, and how do these complaints affect Temse?

Waesmeer recreational area serves as a well-known leisure spot in Temse, which provides entertainment opportunities for relaxation. The sudden increase in complaints about disturbances from the party hall and restaurant threatens to spoil the area’s reputation and negatively affect community support.

The residential needs of Temse’s citizens exist in harmony with recreational facilities throughout East Flanders’ history. Such situations reveal both the management challenges of these spaces and the need for preventive steps that reduce disturbances. Different municipalities have employed noise regulation policies in addition to enhanced permits and heightened local involvement to mitigate commercial-to-residential disputes.
