Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Volvo will produce its electric SUV, the EX30, in Ghent, Belgium starting in 2025. The Flemish government is investing €3 million to train 6,000 workers, supporting Volvo’s goal of becoming fully electric by 2030.

Last year, Volvo announced it would start producing its compact electric SUV at its factory in Ghent, Belgium. Previously, the SUV was only made in China. Due to high demand, Volvo decided to expand production to Europe. They mentioned that the Ghent factory is important for making electric vehicles and will help Volvo reach its goal of becoming an all-electric car manufacturer by 2030, while also reducing the impact of transporting cars over long distances.

How will €3 million enhance electric vehicle production at Volvo’s Ghent factory?

To help with the expansion, the Flemish government has given €3 million to train workers at the Ghent factory. This money will support a training program for more than 6,000 employees. Flemish Minister Matthias Diependaele said this plan will help workers learn new skills for making more electric cars and will help keep jobs at the factory. He mentioned that this investment shows a commitment to making Ghent an important place for building eco-friendly cars and keeping the factory competitive as the industry moves toward green technologies.

It has been said that Flanders is known for its skilled workers in the car industry. The new platform at Volvo Ghent will help make more new models soon. This new model will be Volvo’s third electric car made in Europe. The company plans to only make electric cars by 2030.
