Vilvoorde (Brussels Morning Newspaper): The fire department in Flemish Brabant West is relocating to a new station at Koning Boudewijnlaan and Medialaan, costing €12.73 million. Zone commander Tom Van Esbroeck emphasized the need for modern facilities. The new station opens in 2026, enhancing emergency response and community service.
The fire department in Flemish Brabant West is preparing to move from its old station on Rondeweg to a new one at the corner of Koning Boudewijnlaan and Medialaan. Construction started on 9th October with a special ceremony that local officials and firefighters attended. The new station will be easier to access for emergency responses and will provide a better facility for the community.
How will Vilvoorde’s new €12.73M fire station improve services?
It has been said that the current fire station is old and doesn’t meet modern standards, so a new building is necessary. The new station will have better technology and facilities. It will help firefighters respond more quickly to emergencies and improve training and equipment care, making the fire department more effective in serving the Flemish Brabant West area.
According to Zone Commander Tom Van Esbroeck, the old fire station needs to be updated because it is outdated. He is excited about the new fire station, which will provide better working conditions for firefighters. The city is happy that the old fire station will be torn down to make way for Kanaalpark. Mayor Hans Bonte said that removing the old buildings will help restore the historical site and make the park bigger, connecting it to the city. The new fire station is expected to open in 2026 and the old station will be demolished. The empty green space will be developed in 2027, with the modern building costing about 12.73M euros.
