Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Turk Sport Antwerpen avoids expulsion after supporters attacked a referee and a delegate. Voetbal Vlaanderen fined the club €600 (€200 suspended) and ordered all remaining first-team matches behind closed doors, said Nand De Klerk.

As VRT News reported, Turk Sport Antwerpen, a football club from the Linkeroever area in Antwerp, will not be expelled after all. The club appealed the ruling, and the federation accepted the appeal.

Turk Sport had removed the individuals responsible for the incident, and the authorities agreed that the club should not face full punishment. The club keeps its membership and can continue registering players and fielding teams. It will remain active in its leagues and competitions.

“After a match between Turk Sport and Zwindrecht, supporters walked onto the pitch, and a brawl broke out with the groundsman who wanted to protect the referee,”

said Nand De Klerk of Voetbal Vlaanderen.

“It was already the third time this season that supporters had entered the grounds. The Disciplinary Committee, therefore, initially decided to ban the club.”

What led Turk Sport Antwerp to avoid the expulsion despite supporter Brawl?

Turk Sport Antwerpen must play all its remaining first-team matches this season behind closed doors. The club also received a fine of €600, with €200 of it suspended. The league said the punishment is also a warning to other clubs.

“In the first instance, the most severe sanction possible was imposed. It sends a clear and strong message, but of course, it also punishes quite a few (youth) players and parents.

So we can certainly live with this new ruling, because it now sends a message to those who are actually the problem.”

“Let this also be a signal to other clubs that such behaviour is unacceptable and that severe sanctions may indeed follow.”

Nand De Klerk, spokesperson for Football Flanders

Turk Sport Antwerpen, a football club from the Linkeroever area in Antwerp, faced serious problems earlier this season after supporters attacked a referee and a match delegate on October 12, 2025. The federation, Voetbal Vlaanderen, initially decided on October 20, 2025, to expel the club from all competitions and remove it from the official register.
