Washington (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – U.S. President Donald Trump criticised both Israel and Iran for breaking a ceasefire on Tuesday, just hours after he had announced it. He seemed particularly frustrated with Israel, which had announced plans for significant new strikes on Tehran.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire between Iran and Israel with a post on his social media platform, Truth Social: “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” However, despite Trump’s declaration, both Iran and Israel later accused each other of violating the ceasefire.

“Israel. Do not drop those bombs. If you do it it is a major violation. Bring your pilots home, now!”

Trump posted on Truth Social just after leaving the White House to attend a NATO summit in The Hague.

Before boarding, Trump told journalists that he was “not happy” with either side for breaking the truce, especially with Israel, which he said had “unloaded” as soon as they agreed to it.

What prompted Trump’s ceasefire warning to Israel?

Trump’s statement came after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced on Tuesday that he had ordered the military to launch new strikes on targets in Tehran in response to what he described as Iranian missile attacks, which he called a “blatant violation” of the recently brokered ceasefire.

Katz stated that the Israeli military was ordered to

“respond forcefully to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire with intense strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran.”

Did Israel launch strikes after the ceasefire began?

Iran rejected launching any missiles and claimed Israel’s attacks lasted an hour and a half past the ceasefire’s scheduled start time.

“Iran has not launched any missiles toward occupied Palestinian territories in the past few hours,”

The Iranian Armed Forces stated in a statement. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, for its part, pledged to react decisively against “any act of aggression” by Israel.

“We achieved a victory that forced the enemy to accept defeat and unilaterally halt its aggression,”

The council said in a statement.
