Borgerhout (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The team at Gitschotellei in Borgerhout has experienced a malfunction that has caused multiple other trams to cease their movement throughout the area as a result of a traffic jam situation. The broken tram at Gitschotellei halts multiple additional tram services, leading to a complete traffic jam.

The tram that stopped operating at Gitschotellei in Borgerhout halted all tram transportation throughout the zone. Tram operations ground to a halt because of the incident, which resulted in a multitrans situation. Public transport company De Lijn sent a towing vehicle to address the broken tram and predicted its return to service at the time of 13:00.

The tram is experiencing a technical defect,

says Astrid Hulhoven of De Lijn.

As a result, the trams behind it cannot continue their journey. The first tram has to be towed away; the towing service is currently on its way. Normally, it should be resolved in 45 minutes.

What is the history of tram disruptions in Borgerhout?

Borgerhout residents often encounter tram disruptions on Gitschotellei, which are resolved rapidly. The area serves as a vital transportation junction linking both Borgerhout and Berchem to the central part of Antwerp.

The tram line 5 has operated since the early 20th century and acts as an incident diversion path while functioning as one of the busiest and oldest lines in the city network. Since its modernisation, De Lijn has replaced many of its vehicles since its modernisation, yet technical failures, including the recent equipment breakdown, continue to happen. Events in the past reveal that technical breakdowns and infrastructure problems lead to tram delays, particularly in this transit node.

De Lijn maintains a record that they resolve any interruptions within sixty minutes. The company dedicates funds to enhancing its systems to decrease future incidents.
