Third EU citizens gathering celebrates contributions in the UK

London (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The third EU Citizens Gathering celebrates EU citizens in the UK, featuring discussions and EmpowerEU Awards.

On 12 November 2024, the third EU Citizens Gathering will start. This annual occasion, led by the EU Delegation to the UK, is committed to recognizing the vital assistance of EU citizens in the UK. The Citizens Gathering delivers an invaluable platform for discussion between the diplomatic, citizen and political halls and showcases the dedication of organisations supporting EU citizens in the UK.

Who are the key figures attending the EU Citizens Gathering?

The Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador of the EU Delegation itself, in a “Team Europe” spirit, six EU Member nations Ambassadors from Italy, Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Cyprus and Hungary, two Deputy Ambassadors from the Netherlands and Belgium as well as the Romanian General Consul will talk at the Gathering and Awards ceremony. The enthusiastic involvement of the diplomatic missions in the Gathering only further demonstrates the importance of the function to be played by EU citizens in UK society. The Gathering will also be attended by European Parliament Vice President Victor Negrescu, MEP,  who will offer what the European Parliament can do for EU citizens in the UK.

What role does the EmpowerEU Awards play in strengthening EU-UK ties?

Pedro Serrano, EU Ambassador to the UK, stressed the significance of this initiative:

The EmpowerEU Awards seek to honour outstanding accomplishments in supporting EU citizens and maintaining EU-UK relations, EU-UK youth collaboration and community champions who have made a lasting effect at the local level. EU states that with about 6 million EU citizens living in the UK – their contribution to British society is key and this year is proud to present the EmpowerEU Awards.
