Things to do in Ghent City

Belgium, (Brussels Morning Newspaper)If you’re planning a trip to northwest Belgium, you’ll want to make time to explore Ghent City. Located at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers, Ghent is a port city that was a leading city-state during the Middle Ages. Nowadays, it’s a university town and cultural center. The historic core of the city is packed with medieval architecture. You can take in the Gravensteen (12th-century castle) or visit the Graslei, or row of guildhalls along the Leie river harbor.

If you’re traveling with kids, you can find places to keep them entertained. There are parks, playgrounds, and toy shops geared toward children. Just remember to take some time for yourselves so that the day isn’t too busy. While you’re there, plan some down time for the entire family. For instance, you can have a picnic in the park or watch a movie in an atmospheric cinema.

Visiting the flower market is a popular activity in Ghent City. While the market is open throughout the year, it expands on Sunday mornings. Hundreds of flower and greenery vendors set up shop along the city’s central square. The markets are accompanied by brass bands. The flowers in the flowers are a great way to pass the time while absorbing the history of the area. While you’re in Ghent, you can also visit Saint Nicholas Church.

Visiting Ghent’s medieval architecture and culture is another excellent option. You can visit the city’s Museum of Fine Arts, the MSK Gallery, and the Ghent Quay to experience the city’s cosmopolitan side. You’ll find that there are several cafes and restaurants on the quay. The quay is also home to the hop-on-hop-off water tram.

You’ll also want to spend some time exploring the city’s streets. For a meal, consider stopping at the medieval towers. The Vrijdagmarkt is an excellent example of this. Founded in the 12th century, this market is a popular place for lunch or dinner. You’ll be able to view the whole city from the top of the tower, and you can take a lift to the top of the church. There’s also a beautiful view of the town of Ghent.

For the arts-minded, you should visit the Museum of Fine Arts. S.M.A.K. is a modern art museum with galleries of Belgian and international art. There’s no better way to experience the city’s history and culture. The Museum of Fine Arts is an important place to see in Ghent. A tour of the museum’s five floors will give you a better understanding of the city.
