Paris, 26 August (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Leading figures from French television have paid tribute following the death of TF1 cameraman Gus, whose full name was Auguste Ossieux. Christophe Beaugrand, Nikos Aliagas and Denis Brogniart were among those remembering the experienced television technician, who died in Brittany.
Ossieux worked behind the camera on productions for TF1 and France Télévisions and was remembered by colleagues as an important member of the teams responsible for bringing major entertainment programmes to viewers.
Beaugrand remembers a much-loved colleague
Christophe Beaugrand announced his sadness in an Instagram post, describing Gus as one of the behind-the-scenes professionals who helped make television possible.
Beaugrand had worked with him on TF1’s Ninja Warrior. Remembering their time together, the presenter described Ossieux as an exceptional cameraman and recalled how much they had laughed while working on the programme.
The tribute highlighted the often less visible contribution made by camera operators and other production staff whose work is essential to major television programmes.
Nikos Aliagas and Denis Brogniart join tributes
Nikos Aliagas, presenter of The Voice, also marked the death on social media. He shared an image of Ossieux and expressed his sadness, while people involved in television production subsequently shared the tribute.
Denis Brogniart similarly remembered working with Gus in Cannes during Ninja Warrior. In an Instagram story cited by Puremédias, Brogniart recalled their memories together and paid his respects to his former colleague.
Photographer Marwan Moussa, who worked on The Voice, also remembered Ossieux’s humour and friendliness, writing: “Repose en paix Gus” — “Rest in peace, Gus.”
Gus built a career across French television
The career of TF1 cameraman Gus extended beyond a single broadcaster or programme.
Puremédias reported that Auguste Ossieux worked for TF1 and France Télévisions, as well as on the music programme Basique. His credits also included the documentary Femmes des Francos, centred on female artists participating in the 2018 Francofolies de La Rochelle.
His other work included the 2011 recording of the play Une journée ordinaire, starring Alain Delon and Anouchka Delon. He also contributed to M6’s La Grande Semaine and filmed concerts connected with the Hellfest music festival in Clisson.
