Lorient, France, 26 August (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Leading French television presenters have paid tribute to Auguste Ossieux, a veteran cameraman known to colleagues as “Gus”, following news of his death in Brittany. Christophe Beaugrand, Nikos Aliagas and Denis Brogniart are among those who have remembered the behind-the-scenes television professional.
Tributes reveal a valued figure behind TF1 programmes
Ossieux was not a familiar face to television audiences, but his career placed him behind the camera on several major French productions.
Christophe Beaugrand, who worked with him on Ninja Warrior, announced his sadness on Instagram and described Gus as one of the people working out of the spotlight who help bring television to life. He also remembered the cameraman as an exceptional professional and recalled the laughter they shared while working together.
Nikos Aliagas also marked the loss by sharing a photograph of Ossieux alongside the word “tristesse” and the hashtag #RipGus. The tribute was subsequently shared by television professionals including director Tristan Carné and producer Pascal Guix.
Denis Brogniart separately recalled working with Gus in Cannes on Ninja Warrior, describing him as a “complice caméraman” as he paid tribute to their time together.
A career stretching across French television
Auguste Ossieux worked across several broadcasters rather than being associated solely with TF1. His credits included work for France Télévisions and on the music programme Basique.
His career also extended into documentaries, entertainment and live performances. He worked on Femmes des Francos, a documentary focusing on female artists at the 2018 Francofolies de La Rochelle.
Other credits reported following his death include the filming of Une journée ordinaire, featuring Alain Delon and Anouchka Delon, as well as concert coverage at the Hellfest music festival.
His work on M6’s La grande semaine is independently reflected in programme credits listing Ossieux as a camera operator.
Colleagues remember Gus for more than his camera work
The messages shared after his death have focused as much on his personality as his professional abilities.
Marwan Moussa, who worked as a photographer on The Voice, wrote: “Repose en paix Gus”, remembering his smile and ability to make colleagues laugh.
The tributes underline the contribution made by camera operators and other production staff whose work is essential to major television programmes despite rarely bringing them public recognition.
Final tribute planned in Lorient
A funeral notice for Ossieux was published on 25 August. Reports citing the notice say a final tribute is scheduled for Friday, 28 August 2026 at 1.45pm at the Kerlétu funeral centre in Lorient, followed by cremation.
No verified public information has been released about the circumstances of his death.
For the presenters and production teams who worked alongside Auguste Ossieux, however, the messages shared this week make clear that Gus was much more than a name in a programme’s technical credits: he was a trusted colleague remembered for his professionalism, humour and presence behind the camera.
