Genk (Brussels Morning Newspaper): The SportinGenk swimming pool will close on April 22, 2025, for five months to save energy and improve comfort. Alderman Kathleen Parthoens says upgrades include new glass windows and LED lights to cut energy use by 325,000 kWh each year. The pool will reopen in late September 2025, and swimmers can use other pools during the closure.

Starting April 22, the SportinGenk swimming pool will close for five months for renovations. The goal is to make the pool better for the environment and save energy. They will install a new glass front that keeps heat more effectively than regular windows. This will help reduce energy costs and keep the pool comfortable. The roof and slide will also get extra insulation to maintain a steady temperature. These changes will make the pool nicer for visitors and help lessen its impact on the environment.

What energy-saving upgrades are planned for the SportinGenk swimming pool renovation?

This renovated pool will have energy-saving LED lights, which consume less power and last longer. LEDs save money and are beneficial for the environment because they produce more light. The main reason behind this renovation is that energy costs will decrease and the building’s durability will improve. Kathleen Parthoens, the Alderman for Sports, mentioned that these upgrades will benefit the environment and the local community. This project highlights the city’s effort to create greener public spaces while providing modern facilities for everyone.

Alderman Karel Kriekemans says the swimming pool is being renovated to save energy, with plans to cut down on 325,000 kWh each year. Some work will start in March. To help swimmers during this time, Alderman Parthoens mentioned that schools will use the smaller pool in Boxberg, and others can swim at Kapermolen in Hasselt. If all goes well, the SportinGenk swimming pool will reopen in late September 2025, just in time for school swimming to start.
