Belgium (The Brussels morning newspaper): The Archaeological Museum of Namur has relocated to a new €11 million facility at the Bateliers Museum Complex, offering a more suitable space to showcase its extensive collections from prehistoric to contemporary periods. The museum will celebrate its reopening with engaging family activities for European Heritage Days on September 7-8.
The museum that had been housed in Namur’s former butchers’ shop since 1855 ceased to operate in December and was shifting locations with this property. The Archaeological Museum, which used to be in the old public butcher’s shop, has now moved to a new address next door at the Bateliers Museum Complex, near the Decorative Arts Museum. By moving the museum it has got a more congenial space in which to display its treasures. The cost of this relocation was around 11 million euros, which included work on all types of facilities and structures.
What activities await at Namur’s Archaeological Museum?
Within the collections of prehistory to the present day, the Archaeological Museum houses one of the largest in Walloon-Brussels Federation. The revamped arrangement of the museum affords a new perspective on the history of Walloon city and its neighborhoods.
