Sint-Truiden (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The “Elf Latsjanen” lamppost in Sint-Truiden, a 1982 carnival symbol with 11 lights, was damaged during carnival. 2 lamps broke due to a collision. Gert Stas prioritizes repairs and warns trucks near Groenmarkt.

The “Elf Latsjanen,” a special lamppost in Sint-Truiden, was damaged during the carnival. The lamppost is very important to the people of Sint-Truiden. It happened in collision. Mieke Claes, who works for the city and is in charge of the carnival, said it was an accident.

She mentioned that she was sorry about the damage but the lights still worked. She said the “Elf Latsjanen” are more than just lights, they are a symbol of the carnival in Sint-Truiden. They help people remember the carnival from the past and celebrate it today. The city wants to keep the lamppost for many years to come.

Are trucks in Sint-Truiden a threat to Groenmarkt’s safety?

In Sint-Truiden, people are worried about big trucks driving in the area around the fountains on the Groenmarkt. This is a place where people are supposed to walk, not drive. Gert Stas, who is temporarily in charge of the city because the mayor is away, said he has seen trucks driving there even when there are no events. This is not allowed.

He mentioned that it’s dangerous for people walking and could damage the old buildings, including the “Elf Latsjanen” lampposts that were recently damaged. The city is asking businesses to tell their delivery trucks to use the correct places for loading and unloading and to follow the traffic rules.

We have noticed that trucks are regularly driving in the area of the fountains, while this is not the intention, not even during events or festivities,

adds Gert Stas.

The city of Sint-Truiden is working to fix 2 broken lamps on the “Elf Latsjanen” monument. The mayor, Gert Stas, said they are making it a priority to fix the monument because it’s important to the city’s carnival traditions.

He mentioned that the monument has been there since 1982 and the 11 lamps represent the city’s love for carnival. The city is committed to keeping the monument and making sure it’s ready for future celebrations.

Gert Stas says.

In the meantime, we will get to work on having the 11 latsjanes repaired, so that they can soon shine again on the edge of the Groenmarkt.

The “Elf Latsjanen,” has been on the Groenmarkt since 1982.  Officials mentioned that The lamppost is a symbol of the city’s carnival traditions.  Every year, the carnival starts on November 11th when the lights on the lamppost are turned on.

During the recent carnival celebrations, 2 of the lights on the lamppost were broken. Officials mentioned that it’s not clear how it happened, but people who love the carnival are upset that this important symbol was damaged.  They are disappointed that something so special was damaged during the celebrations.
