Sint-Truiden (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Heavy rain caused flooding in Sint-Truiden, Gingelom, and Nieuwerkerken, leading to water damage in several places. Emergency services responded to around 40 calls, but there were no major problems or serious damages.

On 5th September heavy rain caused flooding in Sint-Truiden, Gingelom, and Nieuwerkerken, leading to water damage in several places. In Sint-Truiden, the flooding was worst in Terbiest, Halmaal, and Brustem, where the water rose quickly, flooding the streets and making it very difficult for residents.

What were the effects of the heavy rain on Sint-Truiden, and how did local authorities respond?

About ten basements flooded because of the heavy rain. Emergency services were busy all night, responding to around 40 calls from worried residents. Despite the flooding, Sint-Truiden’s mayor, Ingrid Kempeneers, reassured everyone by saying, “A few cellars were flooded, but fortunately, there were no major problems.” It has been said that the situation was tough, there were no serious damages or injuries, and the city’s emergency teams handled it well.

The heavy rain caused some streets in the town center to flood. The strong rain was too much for the drainage systems, so water quickly built up on the roads and low areas. One place that got hit was Montenakenweg, where water damage made it hard for cars to get through and created dangers for drivers. Even though the streets flooded, it didn’t get bad enough to affect homes. No houses were flooded, which helped residents avoid serious damage and a big clean-up. Local authorities and emergency services were there to handle the situation, making sure the water was cleared quickly to get traffic back to normal and reduce disruptions.
