Sint-Niklaas (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Four people are critically injured after a shooting in central Sint-Niklaas. Authorities have arrested six suspects as investigations are actively underway.
Since then, six individuals have been taken into custody. It’s still unclear exactly what transpired on Grote Heimelinckstraat.
Police in Belgium received an emergency call at 2:10 a.m. on Friday regarding shooting at the Sint-Niklaas freight terminal, which is located around the intersection of Grote Heimelinckstraat and Entrepotstraat. Emergency medical services and many patrols hurried to the area.
Emergency personnel found four individuals in severe condition at the gunshot scene. They hurried the victims to the hospital. Friday morning, the location was still off-limits for a thorough forensic investigation. The investigation has been transferred to the office of the public prosecutor for East Flanders.
It’s possible it’s a settlement within the criminal underworld, but neither the police nor the public prosecutor’s office are confirming this at this time.
“All avenues are being explored,”
they say. Mayor Lieven Dehandschutter (N-VA), who is currently on vacation, was also informed. He refers the case to the public prosecutor’s office for further details.
Communication won’t happen until the facts are more clear, according to a spokesperson.
What security measures are now in place in Sint-Niklaas city centre following the incident?
