Sint-Gillis-Waas (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 31-year-old man from Sint-Gillis-Waas, Flanders, is under investigation after allegedly shooting a young footballer in the head with an air rifle pellet.

Although this occurred a week and a half ago, it wasn’t until recently that it was made public. A football field is adjacent to the man’s residence. Around midnight, a young football player was riding home from a major football competition when he was struck in the back of the head by an air pistol pellet.

The event took place on Friday, May 9. In the evening, 14 teams participated in a football event on the FC Hoogeinde football field in Sint-Gillis-Waas. The final football players left for home at midnight.

One of them, a 19-year-old man, was abruptly hit in the back of the head by an air pistol pellet. To get the pellet removed, the youngster was brought to the hospital. He is now doing fine.

The neighbor was taken into custody by the police. He must appear in court, but his release is subject to certain restrictions. He is suspected of possessing an illegal non-firearm and of purposeful assault and battery.
