Tehran (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Saudi Arabian Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman arrived in Iran for meetings with officials, Saudi state news agency SPA reported, during a visit prior to weekend discussions involving Iran and the United States regarding the Iranian nuclear program.

During the visit, Prince Khalid will conduct multiple meetings to address bilateral relations and shared issues between the two nations.

The visit comes after renewed diplomatic efforts between the two nations. On Monday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to discuss regional developments and collaborative strategies to address them.

In their call, Prince Faisal and Araqchi addressed regional developments and the actions taken to tackle them. The Saudi foreign minister, along with his Syrian counterpart, evaluated the bilateral relations between their countries while discussing these recent developments and collaborative efforts to manage them.

As reported by Iranian media, Araghchi told bin Farhan about the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on regional and international developments.

Will Muscat ease U.S.-Iran nuclear tensions?

The Iranian foreign minister briefed his Saudi counterpart on the recent indirect discussions between Iran and the United States in Muscat, as well as the upcoming round of talks, which, like the first round, will again be hosted by Oman’s foreign minister in Muscat.

The Saudi foreign minister acknowledged the information shared by his Iranian counterpart and welcomed the ongoing talks. He expressed optimism that these discussions would result in a positive outcome for both Iran and the broader region.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, dismissed speculation regarding the location for the second round of indirect discussions between Iran and the United States. Baghaei stated, “After consultations, it was decided that Muscat (the capital of Oman) will continue to host the second round of these talks, which will be held on Saturday.”
