Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Russia and Ukraine continued their air attacks on each other, causing injuries and damages, officials revealed early on Sunday, as the outcome of a proposed ceasefire to the three-year-old war remained sceptical.

A few days earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he backed in principle Washington’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine but that his troops would keep fighting until several critical conditions were resolved.

In contrast, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has blamed Vladimir Putin of attempting to “sabotage” diplomatic measures to secure an immediate ceasefire. In a post on social media, he insisted the US put more pressure on the Russian president, stating only the “strength of America” could end the war.

Both counties have since exchanged heavy aerial strikes, and Russia shifted closer on the battlefield to removing Ukrainian forces from their months-old presence in the western Russian region of Kursk

How many drones did Russia intercept in recent strikes?

The Russian defence ministry stated on Sunday that its air defence units shot down a total of 31 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory. A total of 16 were destroyed over the southwestern region of Voronezh, 9 over the territory of the Belgorod region and the remaining over the Rostov and Kursk regions, the ministry stated.

Moreover, in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian border area of Belgorod, 3 people were wounded, including a 7-year-old, regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated. Two of the people were wounded after a drone struck their home, causing a fire in the Gubkinsky district of the region, while the other individual was wounded in a drone attack on the village of Dolgoye, Gladkov said.

Governor of Voronezh, Alexander Gusev said that there were no primary reports of damages or damage. The acting governor of the southern Russian province of Rostov said there were no immediate reports of damage or injury reported there either.

What is the impact of Russian drone strikes on Ukraine?

On the other hand, in Ukraine, authorities noted several Russian drone strikes, including on the northern part of Chernihiv, where firefighters were fighting a blaze at a high-rise building that was caused by a Russian drone attack, Ukraine’s state of emergency service expressed.

Ukrainian media informed a series of explosions in the region covering the capital Kyiv, after Ukraine’s air force gave warnings of a threat of drone attacks on Kyiv and a number of other central Ukrainian territories.
