Remco Evenepoel, a two-time Olympic road cycling champion, is facing a long recovery after breaking his hand, ribs, and shoulder blade in an accident with a postal van’s door while training in Brussels. The 24-year-old Belgian was taken to the hospital and underwent successful surgery after the scary incident.

What are the details of Remco Evenepoel’s injuries after his training accident?

Evenepoel posted a picture from his hospital bed with his right arm in a sling. He shared that he has broken ribs, a shoulder blade, and hand injuries, along with bruised lungs and a dislocated collarbone. Evenepoel said his recovery will be hard, but he is determined to get better. His team boss, Patrick Lefevere, mentioned that Evenepoel called him after the accident, saying a postal worker opened the door of a parked van while he was cycling by.

According to Witnesses Evenepoel, a former youth soccer player, was found on the ground after his accident, looking pale but awake. His bike was badly broken. His team, Quick-Step, said he would be off the bike for at least two weeks, but it’s not clear how this will affect his racing plans. Evenepoel wants to race in big events like Milan-San Remo in March, Liege-Bastogne-Liege in April, and the Tour de France in July. He thanked the emergency services and supported the postal worker involved, saying, “The comeback starts now.”
