Warsaw (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On February 25, 2025, Poland and its allied aircraft were activated to ensure the protection of Polish airspace after Russia launched airstrikes hitting western Ukraine, according to the Operational Command of the Polish armed forces.

“The steps taken are aimed at ensuring security in the regions bordering the areas at risk,”

The Command said.

Russian air strikes targeting western Ukraine forced Poland to scramble its aircraft after they threatened the NATO country’s airspace. All of Ukraine was under air attack sirens from 3.30 am GMT as Russia launched a surge of seven missiles and 200 drones at Kyiv and other prominent cities.

“The air alert continues. Stay in shelters until the danger passes,”

Stated the Kyiv region’s military administration.

In an unprecedented move, it came just hours after Donald Trump vowed that Russia was going “all-out” to end the war as he met with Emmanuel Macron to examine European proposals for peace. With increasing fears of a transatlantic split over Ukraine and fraying backing from Washington, the French president cautioned Mr Trump that a contract would not survive without American “backup” and substantial security assurances.

Furthermore, earlier in August 2024, Poland scrambled jets amid a series of Russian air attacks on many Ukrainian municipalities, including those close to Poland. The air movement of the Polish and allied jets in the southeastern region of the country was a reaction to the operations of the long-range Russian bomber aircraft engaged in attacks on Ukrainian cities.

Poland’s armed forces also claimed that all necessary steps were taken to ensure the security of the country’s airspace, which remains under constant watch by the competent units.

News has emerged from local authorities and media of explosions compelled by a Russian invasion of multiple regions of Ukraine, including its capital, Kyiv.
The Ukrainian Air Force conveyed the movement of a large group of Russian drones through multiple areas, as well as the movement of 11 Tu-22MS strategic bombers.
