Kortemark (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A Peugeot 3008 (plate 2-DEF-541) belonging to Dieter’s wife was stolen in Kortemark. Police tracked it, warned about keyless thefts, and urged using signal-blocking boxes for protection.

As VRT News reported, a Peugeot 3008 was stolen early Thursday morning, Nov 27, 2025, between 2:30 and 3:00 am, from a house on Oudstrijderslaan in Kortemark, in the province of West Flanders, Belgium.

The car belongs to the wife of resident Dieter and was parked in the driveway. The family noticed it was missing the next morning. CCTV footage shows a man standing near the car. He suddenly got inside and drove away.

What makes Peugeot 3008 2-DEF-541 a target in rising keyless car thefts?

Police say thefts of this type are becoming more common, especially with Peugeot and Citroën vehicles. The stolen car has already been spotted in Tournai and is likely across the border in France. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the car or the suspect to come forward. Authorities urge residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity.

The stolen Peugeot 3008, with license plate 2-DEF-541, has been tracked and flagged by the police.

“With this technique, specialised gangs hack the key’s signal and then open the car. Using specialised software, a key found near a front door can be scanned.”

Police said.

“The received data is then sent to the car. This makes the car ‘think’ the owner wants to get in, and the thief is done,”

according to the police.

Police also advised vehicle owners to take extra precautions. They recommend storing car keys in special signal-blocking boxes. These boxes, often called Faraday pouches, stop thieves from intercepting the key’s signal remotely.

Similar incidents have happened before in Belgium. Several Peugeot 3008 cars have been stolen in recent years using electronic methods. Thieves often use keyless-entry hacks to unlock the vehicles and start them without breaking in. Police in different regions, including Nivelles, reported multiple thefts of this model in 2022.
