Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper): On October 12, a girl was found dead in Ghent, leading to her parents’ detention. They are charged with unintentional manslaughter and will remain in custody until their next court appearance in a month.

The girl was found dead on October 12 in an apartment located on Leiekaai in Ghent. Her parents had contacted emergency services for help. The father is 55 years old, while the mother is 41. Both parents were taken into custody and appeared before a judge in Ghent, who charged them with unintentional manslaughter.

Will Ghent parents stay in detention after their daughter’s death?

On Friday, October 18, the parents of a girl appeared in court in Ghent to get out of detention. The court decided to let them go under certain conditions. However, the public prosecutor was worried about this decision and appealed it to a higher court called the “KI,” which can review and change the ruling.

After reviewing the case, the court decided that the parents would remain in detention, saying they needed to stay confined longer. They are scheduled to appear before the court again in a month for a new decision on their situation. In the meantime, there is a chance that the investigating judge could release them earlier if new information comes up during the investigation.
