Ninove (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Mayor Guy D’haeseleer of Ninove is re-admitted to the hospital for surgery, 2 months after a liver transplant in April 2025. He plans to resume duties remotely from his hospital bed.

As VRT News reported, the Mayor of Ninove, Guy D’haeseleer, is re-admitted to the hospital. He’s having surgery today, June 23, 2025, 2 months after a liver transplant. He plans to work as mayor from his hospital bed starting tomorrow, June 24, 2025. He wants to stay active and lead the city while he recovers.

According to officials, the mayor’s health is a big topic in Ninove, where he leads Forza Ninove. They mentioned that his illness and transplant were a big deal, but he’s still working, even from the hospital.

The city has adjusted to his health, letting him work in different ways. They haven’t said what surgery he’s having, but his team believes he can do his job. People in the city are watching and supporting him, hoping he gets better as he keeps leading.

Why was Mayor Guy D’haeseleer readmitted to the hospital after his April Transplant?

It’s not yet known why Mayor D’haeseleer is readmitted to the hospital. Neither the hospital nor his team has said what the surgery is for. People are wondering why, especially since he was released from the hospital in May 2025, and was previously very ill. Officials mentioned that the mayor said he still wants to do his job from afar.

He had the transplant in April 2025, at Ghent University Hospital, because of a serious hepatitis infection. Ilse Malfroot filled in for him while he recovered. D’haeseleer left the hospital on May 17, 2025.

Mayor Guy D’haeseleer of Ninove was slowly returning to work, as advised by his doctors. After his liver transplant, his immune system is weak, making him prone to infections. Doctors mentioned that he needs to avoid crowded places and public events to stay safe. His return to work involves working remotely and using digital communication instead of in-person meetings.
