Nieuwpoort (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Nieuwpoort and parking company Indigo have been in a dispute since 2019 over parking fees. The city lost €850,000 and owes Indigo €500,000. Mayor Kris Vandecasteele and councillor Dimitri Dedecker demand urgent action.

The city of Nieuwpoort in Belgium is in a dispute with Indigo, a parking firm, about parking prices. The city is required to approve any contentious to the fees, although they have not done so since 2019.

Nieuwpoort hasn’t received any money from parking fees for years, leaving them with less money for things like public services.  The fight has gone on for a long time, and people are worried about how the city is being run because they can’t seem to solve this problem.

How will Nieuwpoort resolve its €850K parking dispute with Indigo?

A city council member, Dimitri Dedecker, is very upset about the parking fee problem in Nieuwpoort. He says the city has been poorly managed because they haven’t done anything about the fees. He says the city has already lost about €850,000 and now owes Indigo over half a million euros.

Dedecker wants to know why the city hasn’t fixed this problem sooner. He warns that if they don’t act soon, the city will have to pay even more money.  He mentioned that this is making local politicians and people in Nieuwpoort angry because they want the city to be responsible and fix the problem quickly.

The mayor of Nieuwpoort, Kris Vandecasteele, has confirmed that the city has stopped paying Indigo, the parking company, since 2019. This is because they can’t agree on how much the parking fees should be.  The city council hasn’t approved the fees.

Vandecasteele wants to fix this problem quickly and quietly so they can both get what they want. He knows they need to reach an agreement that is good for both sides, but this problem has already cost the city a lot of money.

Dimitri Dedecker mentioned that the contract with Indigo is for a long time, 40 years, which gives the company a lot of power.  He wants the problem to be solved soon because the longer it takes, the more money Nieuwpoort will lose.

The mayor has told people that the city doesn’t plan to make parking more expensive or add more places where you have to pay to park. They are looking for a different way to solve the problem without affecting residents and visitors.  The mayor mentioned that they need to find a way to fix this problem without losing more money.
