Nathalie Van Baren takes on social affairs & senior care in Antwerp

Antwerp (Brussels Morning newspaper) – Nathalie Van Baren (N-VA), an Antwerp city councillor since 2019, now manages Social Affairs and Senior Care. She aims to build a “warm city community” by improving healthcare access and quality of life for vulnerable groups. She also leads the BCSD and manages the Healthcare Company.

Nathalie Van Baren has new duties to manage social services and care for seniors. She will oversee everything related to Social Affairs and Senior Care. Her job is to help vulnerable groups, especially older people. This includes making healthcare easier to access and improving their quality of life.

She will also lead the BCSD, a committee that addresses social service issues in the city. This group works on policies to ensure social welfare services meet community needs. Van Baren will manage the Healthcare Company, which includes hospitals and medical facilities. Her role is important to ensure healthcare services are well-managed and have enough resources.

What new city management role will Ken Casier fulfil?

Alderman Ken Casier will have more duties in his role. He will keep managing parks and green spaces while also taking care of City and Neighborhood Maintenance. This means he will ensure public buildings, roads, and neighbourhood areas are well-maintained.

He will continue to work on improving technology and digital services in the city. His new responsibilities will help make city management better and give residents easier access to services.

Nathalie van Baren (N-VA)

Nathalie Van Baren was born in 1992. She has been a city councillor in AntwerpAntwerp since 2019. She focuses on Social Affairs and Senior Care. She believes these areas help build a caring community. Van Baren wants to create a “warm city community” where vulnerable people feel supported.  She mentioned that she sees her work as a personal responsibility. 

Van Baren says:

“These are also responsibilities that are close to my heart anyway; not only as a municipal councillor but also as a resident, young mother, granddaughter…”

Nathalie Van Baren is active in local politics. She was the chairwoman of Jong N-VA Antwerp from 2020 to 2021. This group is for young people in the N-VA party. 

Nathalie lives in Merksem, a neighbourhood in Antwerp. She lives there with her partner and their three-year-old daughter, Lianne. Her work and family life give her a good view of what people need. She wants to make life better for everyone, especially those who need help.
