Mechelen (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): On Paardenkerkhofstraat, residents heard a loud bang at 10 p.m. Police investigated, finding no injuries or damage. The federal police lab is now involved, suspecting possible foul play.

On the 1st of October in the evening, around 10 p.m., people living on Paardenkerkhofstraat heard a loud bang and called for help. The police and emergency teams quickly arrived to check things out. They looked carefully but couldn’t find out what caused the noise. Everything seemed fine, with no damage or anyone hurt.

What caused the loud bang on Paardenkerkhofstraat?

The police blocked off the area around Paardenkerkhofstraat to keep everyone safe and investigate properly,  creating a big safety zone. This helped them look around without any interruptions. The road stayed closed for several hours while they searched. Even though they checked everything carefully, they didn’t find any clues about what caused the loud bang or if there was any danger. The residents were left confused since the source of the noise was still unknown after the police looked into it.

Even though the first search didn’t show any clear damage or injuries, the authorities stayed careful and kept investigating. They called in the federal police lab to help with a more detailed check. Experts from the lab examined the area closely, looking for any evidence like leftover materials that could explain the loud bang. Authorities now suspect that the explosion might not have been accidental and are taking the situation seriously. They are exploring the possibility of foul play and have involved the federal police lab to investigate potential criminal activity, such as the use of an explosive device. Investigators are reviewing all available evidence, including witness statements from residents who heard the noise and security footage from the area, and no victims were found.
