Brussels (The Brussels morning newspaper): Mayors Cumps and Spinette urged SNCB’s CEO to address migrant issues and resource distribution, highlighting safety concerns at Brussels-Midi station.

The mayors of Anderlecht and Saint-Gilles, Fabrice Cumps and Jean Spinette (both PS) wrote a letter to the CEO of SNCB railway operator, Sophie Dutordoir. According to La Libre, The letter warned that some people could unfairly target immigrants and linked perceived evils of the Brussels-Capital Region with absolutely all problems. It also stressed that Brussels municipalities have been calling for a national distribution plan for over 20 years. This means that ever since had a desire to get together to make social justice policy into practice by means of strategic planning.

How will police address migrant issues in Brussels?

Last August, “the government paid heed to Dutordoir’s SOS” , Spinette told . He said this support could lead to the Federal Government redistributing migrants throughout Belgium and establishing a police station at Midi train station. This points towards a possible reaction aimed at addressing the demand for an even dispersion of immigrants as well as boosting safekeeping at a train station.

Nicole de Moor, the outgoing Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration (CD&V), stated in response to the letter that it would not be wise to dispatch persons who do not have a right to remain to all unemployment and social services offices as this might overload them. She emphasized on the need for individuals without legal rights in the country to go back to their origin country. This shows she is keen on managing resources properly while tackling issues related with unauthorized people within her domain.
