What Goals Have Malta’s New MEPs Set for Their Term?

The Labour MEP Thomas Bajada, one of the new European Members of Parliament, stated that he would be focusing on youths, Gozo and the Maltese identity. “I have been allocated the environment and public health committee where I would like to operate on the environment and also mental and cardiovascular fitness. I will also be working on the fishing committee, where I will be persisting on the work I have already done on fishing and aquaculture, and ultimately, the economy committee where I will ensure that we have economic growth which is also ecologically sound and takes care of our social life.”

MEP Daniel Attard, also a fresh face in Parliament said that he was representing the Maltese and Gozitans and would protect as many committees as possible which are the most critical for the country.

How Will Malta’s MEPs Impact Youth and Economy in the EU?

MEP Peter Agius who was also elected for the first time in the June elections on behalf of the Nationalist Party stated that Europe embraces around 200 laws a year, which need to be prepared for the needs of Malta and Gozo. “I want to convey about more opportunities for young people. I want Gozo to have adequate connectivity. I want to see that our businesses can embrace European laws which are clear to Malta. I want to fight corruption with new ways to have better leadership in Malta, and above all I desire to see that European funds are more accessible to everyone.”

MEP Alex Agius Saliba the Vice President of the Socialists and Democrats and Labor stated that his priorities continued on those he had in the past five years, including persisting to work in favour of the rights of Maltese and Gozitan consumers and the digital field.

The Nationalist MEP David Casa, with the longest-standing profession as MEP of the European Parliament, expressed this year he would be allocated a new committee. “I will of course be on the committee for social affairs and work affairs because that is a panel that I have been following for the last 20 years, as well as the monetary economic committee. But this time I will have a third committee – the committee that Roberta Metsola usually oversees – the Committee for Civil Liberties.”

The European MEPs all decided that they were ready to address the pressing issues that have arisen in recent times and work towards a healthier and more united Malta, Gozo and the European Union.
