Their latest addition the fourth boat is a testament to their successful partnership with Mechelen city. Two years ago they launched the Shopping Shuttle an innovative service that quickly gained popularity prompting the need for additional vessels to meet demand. This expansion underscores their commitment to sustainable transportation and the community’s embrace of eco-friendly initiatives.
Malinska’s Shopping Shuttle Expansion: Enhancing Efficiency and Sustainability
The Shopping Shuttle service operates between the Keerdokkaai situated at the Keerdok parking lot and the Haverwerf in the bustling center. Initially utilizing two out of their three boats for this purpose Malinska faced a predicament on Saturdays. With only one boat available for their tourist tours long queues became the norm. Recognizing the strain on their resources and the inconvenience to their patrons expanding the fleet became an inevitable choice. This decision was not just about addressing operational challenges. It was a strategic move to maintain service quality alleviate congestion and uphold customer satisfaction. By adding a fourth boat to their fleet Malinska ensures smoother operations for both the Shopping Shuttle and their tourist excursions reinforcing their commitment to efficiency and sustainability in urban transportation.
The new boat got a fancy ceremony with Alderman Greet Geypen and Alderman Alexander Vandersmissen. They’re happy about the Shopping Shuttle boat’s success having carried over 23,000 passengers across the Binnendile. People like it because it’s free and helps reduce traffic in Mechelen. Around 1,500 folks use the Shopping Shuttles each week. Mechelen also has free buses to the city center for shopping.
