Lommel (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A fire at Parelstrand campsite in Lommel damaged one chalet around 12:40 a.m. Friday, Dec 5, 2025, with minor damage to another. No injuries were reported. A fire expert, appointed by spokesperson Laura Vanhoudt, is investigating the cause.
As VRT News reported, a chalet at the Parelstrand campsite in Lommel was damaged by fire early Friday, Dec 5, 2025. The alarm was raised at about 12:40 a.m., and firefighters reached the site shortly after the call.
“The chalet was engulfed in flames,”
said the North Limburg Emergency Response Zone.
“The fire then spread to the adjacent chalet, which only sustained minor damage. The other chalet was completely gutted; nothing remains. No one was injured.”
What caused the fire at Parelstrand Campsite in Lommel investigation by Limburg Prosecutor?
The investigation into the fire’s cause is currently taking place through the Limburg public prosecutor’s office. Laura Vanhoudt, a spokesperson for the office, explained that a fire expert has already been assigned to the scene where the investigation will begin and will be inspecting the burn patterns and looking for potential sources of ignition. The fire expert will collect evidence from the site, which could indicate the cause of the fire – electrical, human-caused, or otherwise.
Parelstrand campsite, located in Lommel, has been a popular holiday destination in the past, and several safety reviews have been conducted following small fires at the site in 2022. The campground is located within a larger recreational area and attracts visitors throughout the summer and during school holiday breaks.
Since 2021, local government agencies in the province of Limburg have required several holiday park operators to improve their electrical systems and enhance their ability to provide emergency response personnel with quicker response times.
