Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The Limburg Okra Motorcycle Club (LOM) has donated €1,300 to Ter Heide: woonbuurt Eik in Hasselt, with the entire amount earmarked for purchasing lounge sets so residents can spend more time relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. The gift comes from proceeds of the club’s annual LOM Motortreffen, an event deliberately linked to a good cause to turn the enthusiasm of motorcyclists, volunteers and sponsors into tangible community impact. The donation was reported on 29 August 2026 by HBVL (Het Belang van Limburg), which covered the handover and reactions from both sides.
Who is involved and what is Ter Heide?
The handover took place in presence of LOM Board members along with the woonbuurt Eik delegation. Woonbuurt Eik represents a residential care neighbourhood located in Hasselt housing older people and people who require any form of assistance. In the Flemish context, “woonbuurt” means a smaller unit in a large care campus which emphasizes more on the quality of life, independence and social contacts. Although the HBVL report does not indicate the nature of the legal entity that operates the care facility called “Ter Heide,” the HBVL report gives the description of a typical care facility having people, staff and shared areas where outdoor furniture plays an important role.
LOM represents the provincial motorcycle branch of OKRA in Limburg and operates in the wider context of OKRA-SPORT+, which consists of six motorcycle workings in Flanders.
How did the handover unfold and what stood out to the club?
This was not only a ritualistic exchange for the board of LOM, but also a meeting with people that turned the vague expression “a good cause” into real faces and stories. This point was stressed by the club, which noted that they were received in an exceptional way since their arrival at woonbuurt Eik.
“From the moment we walked in, we were incredibly warmly welcomed,”
the LOM board said in a statement recorded by HBVL.
Members were not only given a tour and an explanation of daily life in the neighbourhood, but also small, personal tokens of appreciation that heightened the emotional weight of the moment.
“We received handmade drawings, thank-you cards and a nice gift, and were treated to coffee and pie,”
the board said, describing the reception as an experience that will linger.
“It was a particularly warm and sincere encounter that will stay with us for a long time,”
they added.
Who was thanked and how will LOM move forward?
LOM made it clear that making the good cause come true could only be done thanks to the collective efforts of the volunteers, the participants and the sponsors. Following this idea, LOM highlighted some of the sponsors that helped make the event such a success. These included Felix & Jos, BMW Motoren Meeusen, Motorbanden Gregoor, Honda Vanrusselt and Piranha Racing, all of which will be known to the local motorcycle and business circles.
At the same time, LOM is already planning for the future, and it plans the third edition of LOM Motortreffen on 20 June 2027. This shows the intentions of LOM to continue with its charity model. With a definite date in mind, the sponsors and participants can prepare accordingly, whereas the club will be able to plan the use of the donations in view of previous experiences.
