Leuven cycling safety: Teen girl injured, 73-year-old hit by Pedelec

Leuven (Brussels Morning Newspaper): A 15-year-old girl on an electric bike crashed into a parked car on Korbeek-Losestraat due to the use of a mobile. A speed pedelec driver slightly injured a 73-year-old cyclist in Leuven.   

On 11th October Friday night around 10 PM, an accident took place on Korbeek-Losestraat. A 15-year-old girl riding her electric bike crashed into a parked car and fell hard. She suffered significant injuries, and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. An ambulance was called to take her to the hospital for urgent medical care.

What do recent cycling accidents in Leuven reveal about safety concerns?

Witnesses reported that the girl seemed distracted while riding her bike because she was using her mobile phone. The local police in Leuven are looking into the accident to understand what happened. Authorities are reminding everyone about the importance of safety while cycling, especially the risks of using mobile devices on the road.

On the same day, there were more bicycle accidents in Leuven. A 73-year-old cyclist from Kessel-Lo was hit by a speed pedelec driver at Martelarenplein around 3:30 PM and fell, getting slightly injured. She was taken to Heilig Hartziekenhuis, while the driver left the scene without giving their details. Later, around 5 PM, a 26-year-old cyclist was injured when she collided with another cyclist, resulting in minor injuries for both. Authorities are working on the safety of cyclists.
