Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On Wednesday, the Kremlin stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not collaborating with China’s Xi Jinping or North Korea’s Kim Jong Un against the United States, also implying that US President Donald Trump’s criticisms might have been made ironically.
Putin is in China, where he met with the Chinese President and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The three leaders appeared together at a large military parade in Beijing, celebrating the 80th anniversary of China’s victory over Japan in World War II.
Trump mentioned on Tuesday that he was “very disappointed” with Putin and implied in a post on Truth Social that Xi, Putin, and Kim were collaborating against America.
How did the Kremlin respond to Trump’s claim?
Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin foreign policy aide, suggested that Trump might have been being ironic when asked about the remarks by Russian state television.
“I think not without irony, he said that these three are allegedly plotting against the United States,”
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said regarding Trump’s social media post that alleged Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un had assembled in Beijing to conspire against the US.
“I would like to say that no one has been conspiring, no one has been plotting anything, no conspiracies,”
Ushakov said.
“No one even had such a thought – none of these three leaders had such a thought.”
“I can say that everyone understands the role played by the United States, the current administration of President Trump, and President Trump personally in the current international situation.”
Why was Trump disappointed with President Putin?
On Tuesday, Donald Trump expressed that he was “very disappointed” in Putin and, without providing details, mentioned that his administration plans to take actions aimed at reducing the death toll in Russia’s Ukraine conflict.
“I am very disappointed in President Putin, I can say that, and we will be doing something to help people live,”
Trump expressed in an interview on The Scott Jennings Radio Show.
In the interview, Trump was also questioned about whether he was worried about an alliance forming between China and Russia against the United States.
“I am not concerned at all … We have the strongest military in the world, by far. They would never use their military on us. Believe me,”
He said.
When was the last time Putin and Trump met?
In mid-August 2025, Donald Trump held a summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage. The meeting focused on the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War but ended without an announced agreement. This was the first meeting between the two since Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
