Kortrijk (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Police Chief Filip Devriendt reports successful operations, 11 arrests for drug and violence crimes, 20 kg of laughing gas seized, and ongoing safety checks around the station until October’s end.

Police chief Filip Devriendt is happy with the early results of recent police work. They have successfully arrested several people with illegal drugs, showing their strong effort to fight drug crimes. In addition to drug arrests, police have also arrested people for physical violence, like assault and battery. Police are actively working to deal with both drug crimes and violence in the community.

What legal actions are being taken against the 11 arrested individuals in Kortrik for drug-related and violent crimes?

According to Chief Devriendt, some people have been arrested and will face serious legal action. This means the crimes they committed are serious enough for formal charges and investigations. Judicial arrests usually happen for crimes that need more legal attention, showing that the police are not just making quick arrests but are also making sure that the cases are handled correctly in court. He mentioned that the operation has successfully kept the community safe and dealt with crime.

They arrested 11 people for different reasons and banned 7 people from the area for a long time. The police also took 3 cars, finding 20 kilograms of laughing gas in one of them. They worked with De Lin to fine over 180 people for not paying their fares and gave 39 fines to those who didn’t have their ID cards. This isn’t good for crime stats, but the main goal is to help people feel safe at the station, after school, and during nightlife. The police are getting positive feedback and are talking to local businesses and young people nicely, but they will act if needed. There will be extra checks around the station until at least the end of October, and this might go on longer, with a mobile police unit helping out.
