The demolition of the former KBC headquarters on Havenlaan is in full swing. It will be replaced by a new residential block; sales of the units started today.
The works are currently in the demolition phase. “The demolition will be finished in a month or two, and after the construction leave we will normally be able to start construction,” says Herwig Thirion, project leader at Triple Living, to BRUZZ. “It will take three to four years to complete the site.” The sale of the residential units starts today.
The KBC office building was built in 1990. After a reorganization within the bank, the building was sold to a project developer. The ceilings were too low and the incidence of light was not suitable for making homes that meet current standards. That is why it is now being cleared for a new mixed district. Only the underground car park and the cellars will be preserved. The rest will be demolished and rebuilt.
According to the plans, there will be 216 homes, offices, shops, a sports hall, a crèche and a hotel. A thirteen-storey building will be built at the front. There will be green spaces in the middle, including a public garden, and other buildings at the back. The budget for the project is estimated at 50 million euros.
Green Mobility
There will be 200 parking spaces and nine electric shared cars will be made available to residents. “There is a declining trend in car ownership and use in the capital, so we plan to accommodate a car sharing system,” project manager Manu Cornette tells La Capitale. Bicycles have also been thought of, with a secure bicycle shed of 1,445 m2.
