Jerusalem (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Israeli bombings killed at least five Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, health officials in the enclave stated, and the Israeli army, which reinitiated assaults against the territory, stated it targeted a Hamas military location in the north.

Gaza health officials said that three people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a home in the Sabra suburb of Gaza City, while another attack left two men deceased and injured six others in Beit Hanoun town in the north.

Why did Israel resume airstrikes on Gaza?

The Israeli military announced it hit a Hamas site in northern Gaza, where they noticed preparations for firing into Israeli settlement. Israel renewed airstrikes a day earlier as both sides exchanged blame over violating a ceasefire and destroying nearly two months of relative calm.

Israeli naval vessels struck several boats it stated were planned to carry out “terrorist” acts by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militant outfits. Palestinians expressed an Israeli drone fired at several fishing boats onshore of Gaza City, putting several of them on fire.

Why is Israel dropping evacuation leaflets in Gaza?

The Israeli military distributed leaflets in areas in Beit Hanoun and Khan Younis in the northern and southern Gaza Strip, instructing residents to vacate their homes, cautioning them they were in “dangerous combat zones.”

“Staying in the shelters or the current tent put your lives and that of your family members in danger, evacuate immediately,”

A leaflet says.

Additionally, airstrikes by Israel on Tuesday resulted in over 400 casualties dead, according to Palestinian health authorities, and Israel alerted the onslaught was “just the beginning.”

Israel and Hamas blame each other for violating the truce, which had broadly held since January and presented respite for the 2.3 million inhabitants of Gaza, which has been diminished to rubble.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated he ordered the attacks because Hamas had denied proposals to assure a ceasefire extension. Hamas, which still carries 59 of nearly 250 hostages, blamed Israel for jeopardising steps by mediators to negotiate a permanent agreement to end the fighting. Hamas officials stated they remained ready to conclude the three-phase ceasefire agreement as signed.
