In a shocking and unprecedented crime, the executioners of Iran’s dictator, Ali Khamenei, hanged at least 20 prisoners on Wednesday, February 26. Executions continue in several prisons across the country, as the regime conceals the true figures and refuses to disclose the identities of the victims.
Among those executed were:
- At Ghezelhessar Prison:
Mosayyeb Azizi, Sajjad Eghbali-Garavand, Bahman Houshmand, Alireza Basati-Nia, Mostafa Hajir-Pirouz, and five other detainees. - In Kermanshah:
Behrouz Safari-Ghaleh-Zanjiri, Milad Moradi, Ali Tcheshmeh-Sefidi, Mohammad Fereydouni, and three other prisoners. - In other cities:
Abdollah Safarzehi in Birjand, Javad Mohammadkhani in Isfahan, and Mir Mohammad Paridar in Ahvaz.
The full list of names and the exact number of executions remain unknown. Meanwhile, reports indicate that executions are accelerating nationwide, shrouded in secrecy imposed by the regime.
By executing 20 prisoners, including several Kurdish compatriots, the mullahs’ regime is displaying unprecedented brutality in a desperate attempt to cling to power. However, these crimes will only fuel public outrage and strengthen the resolve of Iran’s youth to overthrow this oppressive regime.
A Surge in Executions in 2024
According to human rights organizations, the number of executions in Iran has skyrocketed in 2024, surpassing 1,000 recorded executions so far. In just the past two months, over 100 people have been put to death in cities across the country.
Amnesty International reports that many of these prisoners were convicted in unfair trials, denied access to independent legal representation, and sentenced under a deeply flawed judicial system. These executions are not about justice—they are a deliberate attempt to spread fear and crush dissent.
Amnesty International has also sounded the alarm over the imminent execution of two other prisoners, Behrouz Ehsani (69) and Mehdi Hassani (48), urging immediate international intervention. Additionally, the organization has warned that a Kurdish humanitarian worker faces imminent execution, calling for global mobilization to stop this grave injustice.
Successive Executions: An Ongoing Campaign of Repression
The wave of state-sanctioned killings has not stopped.
- Friday, February 28: Shoayb Rezapour was publicly hanged in Esfarayen, in an open display of terror.
- Thursday, February 27: Ali Khalili (Sari), Amir Jafar Panah (Ghezelhessar), and Morteza Jafari (Isfahan) were executed.
- Monday, February 24: Ebrahim Khousheh (Ahvaz) and Yousef Rostami (Shiraz) were hanged.
- Sunday, February 23: Kaveh Assadbeygui (Zanjan) and Naïm Abdi (Ghorveh) were executed.
- Saturday, February 22: Mojtaba Khorramdel, Shahin Goudarzi, Vahid Mohebbi, Asghar Dehghani, and Ahmad Hanafi were hanged in Isfahan.
- Thursday, February 20: Ten more prisoners were executed across various cities.
Each of these executions serves as a grim reminder of the regime’s reliance on terror and brutality to suppress opposition.
A Call to the International Community
Maryam Rajavi, leader of the Iranian Resistance, has reiterated that all political and economic relations with this regime must be conditional upon the cessation of executions, torture, and terrorism in Iran.
Without strong international action, the regime will continue to use executions as a tool of oppression to maintain its rule. It is imperative for the global community to hold the Iranian regime accountable and stand in solidarity with the Iranian people in their fight for freedom.
