Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Havenwereld at Antwerp Dry Docks will open in June 2026 and educate youth about the Port of Antwerp-Bruges through fun activities.

Construction has begun on Havenwereld, a new learning centre at the Antwerp Dry Docks near the Red Star Line Museum. This centre will help people learn about the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, an important port that many locals do not know much about. Havenwereld will focus on young people and make learning fun. Interactive displays will show the port’s role in trade and its technology. Deputy Luk Lemmens says this centre will better connect the community with the port.

What opportunities will Havenwereld provide for youth at the Antwerp Dry Docks?

Havenwereld is moving from Lillo to a new location near the city centre. The new location, at the Antwerp Dry Docks, is close to popular attractions, making it easier for schools, families, and tourists to visit and learn about the port. The centre will also have activities to interest young people in maritime jobs. By moving closer to Antwerp, the city wants to connect the port with its culture.

Young people can learn about all aspects of the port through games and activities

said, Luk Lemmens (N-VA), deputy responsible for Port World

The official twitter handle of Port of Antwerp-Bruges announced the development with images of construction team and a concept interior of the centre aiming that Havenwereld will ‘bring people and the port closer together.’

Post reads:

Statement reads: Today, construction starts for #Havenwereld ! An experience center on the historic dry dock site in Antwerp that aims to bring people and the port closer together. Shell completed by 2025, opening planned for 2026

Visitors can explore how the port works and learn about shipping and logistics. There will be workshops on important topics like cargo handling and green transport. The centre wants to show young people the job opportunities in the port. It aims to inspire them to think about careers in this field and connect them with the port’s future.

“It is within walking distance of the centre. You can get to know all aspects of the port here,” says port alderman Johan Klaps (N-VA)

Havenwereld aims to spark interest in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and its job opportunities. Luc Lemmens and Frank Klaps, who support the project, say the port has many different jobs. People may not know that jobs like logistics, engineering, and environmental work are available.

Havenwereld will show these options to help fill the need for skilled workers. The centre wants to change how people think about jobs at the port. Visitors will learn about the important work done there and the good career paths they can take.

Havenwereld is a project that connects the province of Antwerp, the city of Antwerp, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, and local companies. They mentioned that it is important to link the port with the community. The centre will be open every day for schools, families, and tourists. It is located at the Antwerp Dry Docks and will be a place for learning and exploring careers. The centre is expected to open by June 2026.
