Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Versuz, a Hasselt, Belgian nightclub, will close on May 17th, 2025. DJs Peter Luts and Thierry Von Der Warth, who performed there, expressed sadness over its closure and its impact on Belgian nightlife.
Versuz, a well-known club in Hasselt, Belgium, will close on the 17th of May in 2025. The club has dominated the nightlife scene in Belgium for 23 years. DJ Peter Luts, who has been performing at Versuz for years, commented that it’s difficult for clubs to remain open since youngsters no longer go out as much. He mentioned that Versuz was like a second home to him, and it’s a big loss for him and the whole nightlife scene.
Why is Versuz nightclub in Hasselt closing after years of legacy?
Versuz was a very popular nightclub in Hasselt, Belgium, with lots of people going there to party. Officials mentioned that DJs like Peter Luts helped make Versuz famous by playing music and making people have fun. But things have changed, and people don’t go to clubs as much anymore. This is because there are other places to go and because of the pandemic.
“It’s always a great honor to play there. A lot of international names like Martin Solveig, Fisher, Tiesto have also performed there,”
says DJ Peter Luts.
According to DJ Peter Luts, Versuz was special because it felt like a family. He says the people who worked there and the people who went there were all very close. Luts says he hasn’t seen that kind of feeling in other clubs. He says the energy at Versuz was great, not just on the dance floor but also among the staff. People who worked at Versuz and people who went there often called themselves the “Versuz family.”
They mentioned that they felt like they were part of something special. Luts says he spent a lot of time at Versuz and that he will miss the feeling of being part of a family. He says the loss of this close-knit environment will be felt deeply by all those who were part of it.
“When I came there as a customer, it was always a dream to play there. It was the biggest club in Belgium. People came by bus from the Netherlands or by train from Ghent and so on. Versuz was simply the discotheque,”
Von Der Warth recalls.
According to DJ Thierry Von Der Warth, he is sad to see Versuz close. He has been a DJ at Versuz for 14 years. He says Versuz was special because it was always ahead of its time. He says he has played at many clubs in different countries, but Versuz was different. He says Versuz had a special sound system and a disco bar that could move and rotate.
He mentioned that Versuz also had a special LED wall that could change the size of the dance floor. Von Der Warth says he is sad that his newborn child will never get to experience Versuz. He says he won’t be able to tell his child that his father used to play there. He says the closing of Versuz is a loss for everyone, especially younger people who will never get to experience it.
“It’s such a shame that my newborn won’t be able to go out in the Versuz for 20 years.”
