Hasselt (Brussels Morning) – The teachers at Hassel gym were disciplined for inappropriate messages but the school director was cleared of wrongdoing. The teachers need to reflect on their actions and focus on positively contributing to the school when they return.

At Hassel gym in April 2023 some teachers got in trouble because their private messages were leaked. The messages had some really bad stuff like being sexist, homophobic and racist. The school punished the teachers some were suspended and some were let go. The teachers also complained that the school boss violated their privacy by sharing their messages. It caused a big mess for everyone involved.

What consequences did teachers face for inappropriate WhatsApp messages at Hassel gym?

The boss at the school Erwin Vermeulen, said that the public prosecutor’s office dropped the case. They couldn’t find enough proof to say the director did anything wrong. Vermeulen made it clear that the director didn’t do anything bad. So, the head honcho, Vermeulen said that the seven teachers who got hit the hardest were actually wrong at every step of the process. This mix-up happened five times. The fact that the public prosecutor’s office threw out their complaint shows that the teachers were off the mark with their accusations every single time.

The teachers messed up big time in their WhatsApp group. The school is super serious about this kind of behavior and won’t tolerate it. The teachers on suspension need to really think about what they did wrong and how serious it was. When they come back to work they gotta be extra careful to follow all the rules and act professionally.

Wounds have been made, but one day we will have to give this all a place

The teachers need to come back to the school slowly. Even though there were problems. We have to find a way to move forward. The teachers said they love teaching and want to help their students a lot. They believe that they will show this when they come back to work. They should prove their dedication by making a positive impact on the students and the school.
