How did the special event ‘Un dîner pour 1’ at the governor’s residence garden in Hasselt combine food, theater, and British humor?

The governor’s residence garden was opened for a special event called “Un dîner pour 1,” which combined food and theater in a unique way. The event featured a performance by the theater company Le P’tit Cirk known for its creative and engaging shows. The performance paid tribute to British humor inspired by Lauri Wylie’s famous play “Un dîner pour 1” and the well-loved TV version that has entertained audiences with its smart jokes and timing. It has been said that the performance not only celebrated traditional British comedy but also let guests enjoy the beauty of the governor’s garden while having a nice meal and watching live theater. The evening was meant to highlight the lovely garden and the lasting charm of British humor making it a memorable experience for everyone.

According to audience reviews in the play described by spectator Lut Dreezen the main funny part is about a birthday dinner where the guests are missing. The butler who is supposed to serve these guests who aren’t there goes through the motions of a fancy dinner. The humor comes from how silly the butler’s actions are without any guests creating a funny situation for the play. The situation gets even funnier when the butler instead of doing his job of serving starts drinking all the drinks meant for the guests who aren’t there. Lut Dreezen thought this part of the play was especially funny because it shows how the butler ignores the formalities adding even more humor to the already silly situation.

“I laughed the whole time,” says Angela Castro about the show. “They were really good.” The place was nice too: “It’s my first time here,” says Dreezen. “I’m happy there’s a lot of shade in the garden because it’s too hot in the sun,” adds Castro.
