Hasselt’s Elfde Liniestraat: €12M green makeover for safer campus

Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Elfde Liniestraat in Hasselt will set a €12 million redevelopment to enhance safety and accessibility for students, with car bans, bike paths, and green spaces. Marin Struyf announced plans for a new bus stop and a city promenade. The project starts in early 2025, and lasts about two years, with public consultations in November.

Elfde Liniestraat in Hasselt is getting a renovation with a new permit for redevelopment. This project will prepare Campus Elfde Line for the team bus and make it safer for students, workers, and visitors. Only buses will use a special lane through the area. They mentioned that there will also be bike paths, green spaces to collect rainwater, and new seating areas to create a pleasant city promenade.

What are the plans for the redevelopment of Elfde Liniestraat in Hasselt?

Marijn Struyf from Werkvennootschap announced plans to turn Elfde Liniestraat into a green city promenade to make it safer for everyone. Cars will be banned, allowing more space for walkers, cyclists, and buses. A new bus stop will be built at the intersection with Koning Boudewijnlaan, designed as a modern meeting point for people using different types of transport. This stop will also have a garden area for waiting, with wooden roofs to keep travelers dry and shaded.

In November, people can see the plans for the Elfde Liniestraat project and share their opinions with the city of Hasselt. The work is set to start in early 2025 and may take about two years to complete, done in phases along with the bicycle bridge project. Updates on accessing Campus Elfde Linie and Campus Diepenbeek during the work will be available on the website. The new tram bus service is expected to begin in the next year, using its bus lane and regular traffic. The total cost for the Elfde Liniestraat redevelopment is around 12 million euros.
